What to do with an 2006 car that's probably not economical not to fix?

2006 Citroen C2, 180,000km, timing belt done less than 10,000km ago, brakes seem to be gone, light broken, dents on bodywork. Was running well up until brakes making scraping noises then failing but car needs a bit of TLC.

Would there be any point the missus fixing it up and then trying to sell, sticking this up on Donedeal or Carzone or would selling for scrap be the best bet?

    Anyone know?!

    Thanks.

If all that's wrong is the brakes, then surely a new set of pads would make sense? Presuming the discs aren't shot too?

Fix it, NCT it and sell it. Doesn't sound too bad at all. Thought you were going to say it needed a new engine.

No, the engine is perfect in it.

We know feck all about cars so just don't know what to do.

Have you gotten a quote for the work to fix it?

Now would be a good time to learn, considering for maybe €200 worth of repairs you want to scrap a 06 car.

    Crazy.

Not yet. Just trying to weigh up what to do. Getting a quote would probably be a good first step though.

Put it into an auction if you want to get rid of it without spending money on it. Small cars seem to be making particularly good money in the auctions at the moment.

Any decent indy will fix that car for a few hundred quid.

Do you service it regularly? Or have a decent mechanic?

I was only thinking about this myself the other day. In 2007 you could pick up 8 year old cars for peanuts but in todays world that's unheard of.... How times have changed!

Back to the OP: learn to change the brakes and keep the car till it gives up. Sounds like it's giving you naff all trouble, I'd be holding onto it
