You may have to wait for the P45. Not all places will hand them out on your last day. Not sure if the contract with end date will suffice. The social website states to bring a letter from your employer stating last day of work if you do not have a P45.

Don't wait for p45. Make claim on your first day of unemployment. When you say temp is it through an agency or was it just a short term contract? Agencies don't always give p45s. You'll need the usual proof of id and address too.
