ive two bullocks with one tag missing on each,

    so im going replacing them,

i just noticed the colour of the existing tag, (the pin/button). on one of them he has a white button, on the other he has a black one.

does this matter, or should i just go with the below

"Replacement Single Visual Tag(s)" (top row centre)

The BVD sampling tag has a white head on it. I've never had to replace one yet myself to now for certain but I'd say you're ok with the 'Replacement Single Visual Tag(s)' as he was sampled already.

Maybe I took it up wrong but if an animal lost its bvd tag (white button/head) were they not meant to be replaced free of charge?

They will if you send them the old one if ya have luck finding it.

I registered with them last night, suppose to receive an email from them with temp password, nothing yet,

Ah, not too expensive, just 100% hassle

Took two days to get my temp password sent in email so don't worry!! They could do with extra staff there!

I find the online ordering a godsend. Ordered 30 tags last week, post inspection, arrived 24 hrs later. Can't ask for more.

On missing tag just order replacement tag. If its a tissue tag that's missing and animal was already tested ordinary tag will do

normally on a mentaller calf too, i put the retags into the old hole in cows ears, might just retag them this time

    update,

i emailed then the following morning after reg, patricia got back to me and said ill recived the password shortly, which i did,

    ordering was simple. . .

also picked up a tagger. . black and yellow one. . . it seems to do all 3 types, where the red one is just the conventional tagger. .

please dont tell me now the red one is easier for normal tags. . .

anyway. . dont like the sounds of tags falling off a week later. .reading some posts here. . . cattle retest is sat morning, so im hoping to get the tags before then.. . avoid putting them in again.

any tips. . . . . ive seen very very badly done tags. . almost done in such a way ur asking for it to get caught. .

ive a bullock with tags done on upper ear, with tags back to front. . . and upside down. . . .anyone who does thes shouldnt be farming. . . drives me nuts. .

Where a tag has been for years, the ear seems to get stronger and tougher around the hole, so if she hooks the new tag in a bit of baler twine , for example, she can pull hard without the ear tearing. At least in my experience.

We use two taggers, the blue one for normal, the yellow/black one for samples. Means that I can rope the calf, back it into a corner where the two taggers are set up and click, click, tagged. (Thank whelan for the idea ;))

Between the veins, depending on ear size, about 2/3 in from tip, large number forward., Not that hard. Older animals have tougher ears though so that caught me out a couple times.
But as above, the BVD side seems to fall out easier than the normal, our cows lost their BVD ones within a week of tagging them and we had two heifers lose them last year too.

I'm still trying to figure out how I could put a tag in upside down though:pac::confused:

Managed to retag a ewe yesterday, while the Ag. Inspector was present, and put the two blank sided tags together in the one ear...

we seem to lose a few tags off animals where the tag just breaks off it seems without any force. I asked the suppliers if they had any other people with this issue. They never replied.

I punched the DNA tag through one side of an existing tag by mistake when I was tagging the cows a few months back, felt like a right ass after doing it. No fear she'd lose it though
