    Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experience of the assessment for this program?

I'm due to travel to Charleville in Co. Cork for an assessment day & I'd like to know what to expect. The good , the bad & the ugly.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Regency Black,

I went for this in Kildare last year (I didn't get it) but basically I was put in a group with 5 others, around my own age. We were all put sitting at a table and given an exercise where we had to pretend we were explorers in Antarctica in the 1800's. We had a list of items and we had to decide in order of importance which items we were going to bring. This we did individually. Then we had to discuss it with our group and argue why we thought our items were more important then the ones our team mates picked. The managers were going around listening to us all when we were arguing all this. We also had to introduce ourselves and speak for a few minutes about our last jobs etc. We were then given a bag of spaghetti and a bag of marshmallows and build the highest structure we could. It was a bit weird, but we got loads of free food.

Here's a hint - if you have to build the structure, what we did to win was put it on a chair, which we put on the table. I found it very intense and I also found the managers to be a bit ageist. I hope this helps you and best of luck.

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. I appreciate the info. If I could just ask also, when you say you felt they were being ageist, do you refer to them having something against the older or younger participants. I myself am 34 so just wondering where I am positioned in relation to this.

Well, I was 32 going for this - all the people on my table were over 30 (we were the only ones there over 30) and none of us were called back. A young lad of 17 with terrible English was called back though... so make what you want of that :/

I used to work for lidl as a store assistant and I hated every minute of it. The company has a very high turnover of staff. Our store manager often worked 7 days a week and some weeks clocked up over 100 hours. I remember one day that there was something big going on and we worked a 20 hour shift, but the manager worked closed to 30 hours without a proper break.

There were students that worked with us that did their degree in DBS. One of them left lidl as soon as they got their degree and the other stayed. They seemed to like the work and thought the money was good.

If I was in your shoes I wouldn't work for them. There are lots of articles online of what lidl are really like to work for.
