Am I eligible for compensation??

    Hi all,

Around 3 weeks ago myself and my friends hired and astro-turf pitch for football. Unfortunately I was injured in a tackle but I do believe the slippery surface contributed to the injury. (I don't think it would have happened on grass).

The result was a fractured Tibia and Fibula while also damaging a tendon and dislocating my ankle. I was admitted to hospital where I stayed for 18 nights, receiving surgery twice and getting released 2 days ago.

I had been working through a 12 week contract that was due to finish in mid August, which I am unable to do now. On top of this I will be unable to put any weight on my bad leg for 2 months, and probably not be able to walk properly for 3 months.

Do you think I have any grounds for compensation?

    Thank you

First, a search may show that similar queries have arisen before on the forum. Those discussions may assist.

Secondly, it is hard to tell whether there was negligence on someone's part which may have caused your injury, without an engineering inspection of the pitch. A solicitor can recommend somebody.

Thirdly, these types of threads tend to attract the high horse brigade, who are quick to criticise but rarely have anything worthy to add to legal discussion.

Your awareness of the differing surface conditions is not going to help you. What negligence, other than your own, are you alledging?

    Was the club/team insured?

Who was responsible for the risk assessments?

were you wearing trainers specifically designed for the surface?
    had it been raining recently?
