Accommodation for UCD student in Terenure

I've just bought a house in the Walkinstown/Terenure area (the famous Terenure Dublin 12 address!) and I'm considering renting a room to a college student to reduce the initial burden of the mortgage! UCD, Trinity and DIT are probably the closest big colleges.

My question is this - do you think there would be any demand to rent a room that is approximately 7km from UCD by car? It's only about 20 minutes drive from door to door. I could specify on the ad that it would be necessary to have a car in order to consider renting with me, I suppose.

There might be more demand for a Trinity/DIT student considering the regular bus service into town, but I went to UCD myself and it'd be nice to have a bit of common ground with my lodger so we could discuss the campus etc.

Any thoughts welcome. Personally, I would've rented a little further out and driven into college every day if it meant paying a little less or having a nicer house, but I know plenty of others wouldn't have. It might also suit someone who is a little shy and doesn't want to live with 6 strangers straight away.

PS This is not an ad, I still have a bit of work to do on the house to turn the spare bedroom into an ensuite for a potential lodger.

Well, the 17 goes via Terenure Cross en route to UCD, so it might be worth mentioning. Mind, I've seen more blue moons than 17s.

Its not 20 mins drive at a time anyone would want to go to college at though, it's an hour at peak time in the morning. You'd have a better shot with a trinity student, better bus connections.
Also any student who can afford to run a car will prob be able to afford something a bit closer also!
I know if i had a coice between getting rid of the car and being close to college vs living in terenure and having a car, I'd get rid of the car!

30 minute cycle would be a good selling point. Should be able to get €450 a month.
