    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of downdraft extractor fans?

We are thinking of putting one in our island.
Our electrical shop says that only 80cm and 90cm wide versions are available in Ireland.
We are getting a 60cm induction hob, so 80-90 extractor seems too wide.

We'll have a HRV system, so I think we only need the extractor fan for grease.

I'm finding hard to get info online.

    Thanks.

Most kitchen designers always prefer larger extractors to hobs so you get an overlap and they don't look so clumsy.

If you look at some kitchens with a 60 hob 60 backsplash and 60 extractor it all looks a bit daft, whereas we have a 60 hob and then 90 for backsplash and extractor.

Oh yes, and our kitchen designer also said, you get better extraction with an overlap.

    Hi Aoife

Did you decide to get a downdraft extractor ? if so how does it work well for you ? And most importantly where did you find one ?

    Thanks

    Hi,

We're just finished first fix electrics so no kitchen yet!

But our HRV provider said that 2 of his clients had recently installed downdrafts and they were not happy with them.
Our island will have a raised breakfast bar behind the hob, so I thought it may be awkward popping up higher than that. And I've read that a recirculating downdraft may cause mould in the island cabinets because of the steam.

We've decided to go with the elica sienna recirculating hood instead so we don't need to duct out.

You can get downdrafts for 1400euro. They have them on the powercity website and most electrical places do them.

    Aoife.

hi Aoife thanks for your reply that's interesting about the mould will have to look at ducted version. Unfortunately the cheapest one powercity seem to have when searching for extractors is over €2800 which doesn't seem right ! I have found others for about €2000 which still seems too much.
Will have to look at sourcing one from the UK

Thanks for your help and best of luck on the completion of your build

we also looked into the downdrafts after one kitchen company planted the seed in our heads. we also have a HRV system and any other kitchen crowd we spoke to did not recommend them. we were looking at the Elica Isobella hood then, did not see the Sienna but its is actually nicer again and very minimalist. anyways in the end we decided to put hob back in original place against a wall. were not stuck for space in our layout just the idea of it on the island was very appealing but in the end would not have been very practical for our needs.
would love to see some pics aoife80 of how it turns out for you :)
