Lads holiday in Hawaii, is it worth it?

I'm going to San Francisco for two weeks at the end of September with a couple of the lads. We were considering going to Hawaii for 5/6 days in the middle. As none of us have been before I'm wondering is it worth it for a group of lads, or would we be better off doing a road trip up/down the west coast instead? We're not after an Ibiza style experience just a but of craic.

Hard one to call in ways; I've done both but Hawaii was part of a couple. Good for adventuring - both land and sea - and quite a different feel to mainland US. Perhaps someone else has more input from a group perspective.

My gut feeling with a group of lads would be the road trip; major stumbling block is LA which is not inviting. San Diego is really cool, plenty to do and good nightlife. Coast road is a great drive. Yosemite is also a great destination. There's also the Vegas option which can be as wild as you want.

I'm probably not helping you much; I would advise to not consider LA as an option though. I can advise more on either choice if you wish.

Another option actually is the Pacific North west. If you're prepared to fly to Hawaii, you might fly to Seattle and drive back to San Fran. The scenery is stunning and Seattle and Portland both have very lively nightlife.

You've too much choice. It's a great part of the works to holiday in.

Thanks for the reply. That's another option that I've been considering too but was thinking, would we be trying to fit too much in then? I've never been to the west coast so I'd just like to make the most of it while I'm there. I'm ruling out Vegas, too dangerous!!

Assuming you don't want to spend 2 weeks in the San Fran area, then I don't think 5-6 days traveling is excessive. I would suggest flying if you want to maximise sight-seeing; I think San Fran to Seattle is prob 12 hrs drive but don't do it both ways. The Oregon coastline really is very scenic and there's loads to do. Portland and Seattle have a great vibe.

The weather is Southern California is better/warmer but LA is a unfortunate blight on the way.
