Would like to know peoples thoughts are on the use of the Parthenaise breed. I use all AI. (Munster AI) and would be interested to know what experience people have of using any of the Munster AI Parthenaise bulls.
I have a mixture of cow breeds such as Limousin and Saler crosses and some Belgian Blue x Limousin. (ie. quarter blue)
I have seen some Parthenaise calves out of continental cross breed cows on another farm and they are very impressive, long and muscular.
I sell all as weanlings. Would be interested to know what people think.
I have used mainly Limousin and Belgian Blue sires up to now.

cracking breed!! have been using them cautiously over the last 2-3 years. Bull calves have been very impressive and was just holding back to see how the females were regarding milk and calving ability. At this stage we have 3 calved no bother and plenty of milk but above all some of the best calves we have had to date!!! Have Gonzo Lry and Alimira Harry in the tank and parthenaise will be the most used bulls in our herd next breeding season!!

Super breed with great length and shape and good milk, very docile too. We bred them out of limo/blonde cows and crossed them back to a blue leaving super weanlings for export. Picture is one of the heifers last winter.

Eamon, any reason why the breed has not taken off more in Ireland. Super.animal by the way.

Maybe because they are marked a bit like the jersey around the head??

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I don't know Mac, it's probably the fact that there are so many breeds out there at the minute. Charolais and Limousin only had Hereford and Angus to compete with when they first were brought in, now you have multiples to choose from. There are probably a lack of bulls to be bought in the country also and you know how little AI is used in most herds.

I'm not a breeder and we don't have Sucklers anymore so I have nothing to gain, but as far as stock goes, and we had a lot of Sucklers, they were the kindest and easiest cows to do anything with and produced super stock when we crossed them with blues, Charolais or Angus.

Irish man farming in France is changing his herd over to them. Loves them for all the reasons posted above

Plus the fact that cull cows realise ~ €6.50/kg.
Frogs reckon their meat is premium for some reason.
