Painting interior doors off-site.

Sorry not really a DIY question, but the "Interior Design" forum doesn't have much traffic...

I have several interior doors that need a paint job done on them. I want all the hardware removed before the doors are painted and want to know if the paint job can be done away from the house?

I don't want to leave the painter unattended in the house and I can't take time off work so want the 2 or 3 coats done off site.

Is this an unusual request and will it be hard to find a suitable company/painter?

...and no I don't want to do it myself, as you can tell an amateur paint job pretty easily! :)

I've never been asked to do that so I'd say its a unusual request.
You would need to find a painter that has premises for him to do this. There are very few painters that have premises imo.

I'm left in the house/job alone frequently and would find it a right pain to be only able to work when somebody is at home.

Can you not find a painter through friends or family that is trustworthy?

Doesn't it take a few days to paint the doors though? Don't they need to be left somewhere while the first coat dries etc?

I don't really have space for doors to be left up against the wall.

Yes its takes time for the oil-based paint to dry thats why i said you need to find a painter that has premises so he can paint the doors there.

Water-based undercoat and gloss/satin can be used to speed up the process but i think the finish can be a bit patchy sometimes with it drying to fast in this type of heat.

No worries, I'll probably need to look for a company that does painting rather than an individual painter.

Tradesmen.ie probably wouldn't be suitable for this so I'll try google. Thanks!

Got a few quotes for this around the €650 mark.

Roughly how much would you expect someone to charge for painting 6 doors (priming exposed planed edges & 2 coats of white satin).... 4 x 4-panel .. 2 x panel w/ glass

    in normal circumstances (i.e. on-site) ?

    Sorry one more question here...

I want satin white for the doors, which are currently primed at the factory.

Does it matter if I go for oil or water-based paint?

A professional will be doing the painting, so it won't matter which is "easier" to put on, but I guess durability would be the main factor for me.

I think oil based is more durable, but is it better to put water based over a primed undercoat?

Over primer you can use water-based or oil but i'd go for oil as its more durable imo.
I prefer the look of the finish that oil gives.

    Less than half your quote.
