€4,000 to spend on a car - any advice appreciated

I'm moving back to Ireland and have up to €4000 to spend on some wheels. Any advice would be appreciated. Highest priorities are: #Reliable
#Cheap to run , insure and tax etc
    #Availability of parts
#Not too small (lots of airport runs with family)
After that I'm not so fussy... I'm currently in Oz in a fiat and it's a nightmare for parts so keen to go with something that's common in Ireland.

Do you have a job lined up - if not, is spending a chunk of your savings on a car a wise investment?

Toyota Corolla - very reliable, good on fuel and very popular so no issues with sourcing parts.

Corolla is your man. Focus would be a distant second.

That's like asking what's the average length of a piece of string to be honest. Totally depends on the model/year/mileage and condition, you will pay strong money for the best example while dogs tend to go for less.

That dealer must be a part time comedian asking €4450 for a 10 year old Rover 45. Price aside, the Rover 45 was even a 9 year old design when that car was brand new. :D

And that Corolla is pure poverty spec.

Sorry to single you out Victor, but this is a real bugbear of mine. The OP asked for advice on a car, not for investment advice. What is it with the motors forum?

+1 for a Corolla, at that money you just can't go wrong.
