    Hi Folks.

In a bit of a pickle here.My wife who's a non EU national and has been living in Ireland for the last 4 years on a stamp 4 gnib visa has found herself in an awkward situation.

She completely forgot her passport and residency permit were expiring on the second of this month. She went to the embassy and renewed her passport which arrived quick enough {two weeks] last Friday. But its now the 13th so her GNIB card is expired 11 days.

She was told in the embassy that she would have two weeks from date of expiry to renew it but I'm not so certain on that. I can't find any info on it.

anybody know whats likely to happen when she goes in to renew it ?

She might get a lecture, but it's unlikely anything worse will happen.

    You reckon ?

She is technically here illegally now, i know people take that kind of thing quite serious these days.

No, it really isn't a huge deal. Especially if the grounds on which she was granted a stamp 4 still exist... it might help if you clarify what they are. This happens all the time and provided steps are taken to regularise the situation ASAP it usually isn't a problem.

    Cheer's.

Well she was granted a one year stamp 4 in 2010 after we got married and a renewed three year stamp 4 a year later which has since ran out on July 2nd. We've also had a child together recently but I'm not sure if that matters any.

We are going into the Dublin Immigration offices tomorrow morning to sort it out so I'm just hoping there wont be any trouble.

Ah no she'll be grand. Bring child's birth certificate and proof of continuing joint residence if you can.

Also, if child is an Irish citizen, your wife may want to consider applying for permission to remain under the Zambrano decision. This would give her a more secure residency.
