Is the World cup Final on RTE 2 in SD?

I am certain the picture has deteriorated in the last few games of the World Cup on RTE2 HD. It seems it is upscaled SD.
Even the guys in the studio are not HD anymore. Are they using the HD cameras for the GAA, and then forgetting to switch over the live Brazilian feed to HD?
I noticed throughout the World Cup that highlights and pundit clips were always in SD which means they don't have the HD recording equipment in the studio.

Certainly doesn't seem to be as good as normal tonight.

Thought the same too, flicked to BBCHD, but not sure if that's even that better either

Don't think any of the GAA was HD either this weekend, I didn't watch any of the games completely but think they were upscaled on flicking through.

Last night's 3rd place game had the same issue.

RTE is very poor. Soft and washy

ITV not too bad but BBC is the best.

Last nights game wasn't HD either. Disappointing from RTÉ.

That RTE 2 picture tonight isn't anywhere near HD. The biggest sporting event in the world and this is the crap we have to put up with. Who the hell is responsible ?

Looks fine to me. Definitely not upscaled.

Ah no question RTE are upscaling, though why? I'm in Waterford

BBC1 HD and ITV HD miles better image (though BBC1 HD is currently breaking up a bit on Freesat)

Let's not over react. It was still perfectly watchable.

HD/SD or maybe black and white, it's only the Irish, " shure it's grand " !

Its probably a usage survey RTE are doing.

Survey Q1: If we switch to SD for a major sporting event on Saorview, who will notice?
Survey Q2: Will we get complaints from customers?
Survey Q3: Will we get complaints from the media?
Survey Q4: How relevant is Saorview?
Survey Q5: Do we really need HD on Saorview?
Survey Q6: Do we really need Saorview?

I was wondering why the picture was so bad :o
The daytime matches from the World cup on all of the channels were poor I thought, very washed out .
Nighttime matches were much better .

Could be the feed they are getting from the EBU? BBC probably uplinking directly from Brazil.

More prominent is the getting hysterical over absolutely nothing.

If we don't complain, we end up with a service of only 6 channels. Oh wait, that's what we have. No point in complaining so.

Who's getting hysterical ? Is it unreasonable to expect to receive the service we have paid for through our TV licence fee ? People have paid good money for HD Tv's etc to be able to watch major sporting events ( among other TV programmes ) in HD and then we end up with that mushy picture last night. Sure it was watchable, buts that's not the point. It's the attitude that prevails across a lot of things in this country - we accept second rate services, telling ourselves, it's grand, sure it will do, etc etc. Bit like telling the waiter in the restaurant you had a lovely meal, when in fact it was awful. It's an Irish thing. Ok, rant over.

Picture was quite poor last night alright. It was hard to decide between the superior PQ on BBC, but with inferior commentary. Funny, the studio seemed HD alright, just not the game coverage, and I'm quite sure the games were fine at the start of World Cup. Even the Score DOG seemed washed out a bit.

    Not really.
I turned to the BBC as the pictures on RTE were so washed out and mushy that you could only just make out numbers on shirts and when the camera panned out you couldn't make out the faces of players.
So as far as watchable might stretch then this was right down at the limit so hence for me not watchable.
I have sent an email complaint to Saorview but don't expect to get any joy as is typical of this country and the services we get

Its not a Saorview issue, as the picture was also poor on Horizon. it was a studio issue. Somebody not knowing which buttons to press to pipe the HD feed. It used to happen quite a lot in the trial HD period.
I watched the BBC coverage, but as it was Bill's last day, switched over to the 4 amigos after the match.
    But it is unacceptable.

notice this myself on the last few games. Picture was poor on Sky and Saorview.

I didn't notice this issue at all until I got my new glasses this week. Seems to be plenty of up-sampled material on RTE - eg HD studio footage but up-ressed SD footage from the field.

I didn't really notice the SD picture on Saorview until I read this thread today.

Getting the wrong type of match feed for the WC final from RTE's coverage is an absolute disgrace. They broadcast their Irish home soccer matches in HD with no problem don't they? And they can't even do it for one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

It is typical of this country to not even bother about it from the powers that be that is from the likes of RTE.
