    Hi,

I have a 2006 5 series, I got an error on the iDrive system - it is attached.

" parking light front right failure "

I'm trying to figure out where the bloody parking light is , I read the manual and I am none the wiser as to the exact location.

I took a pic of one of the lights, see second attachment.

Where is the "parking light " in this arrangement.

Parking lights are the halo shaped rings around both dipped and main lenses rather than a standard bulb. This is why they are known as angel lights. Maybe I'm stating the obvious here but I presume you switched the lights on to compare left side to right side?

Yes I did switch them on and looked etc but still don't know where the stupid things are exactly.

So are you saying that I'm not replacing a bulb at all really, just the halos around the lights

Check out youtube, there should be plenty of videos up there of how to remove them.

Its the bulb that lights the halo you need to check

Sorry I should have been clearer, there is a bulb behind the halo that illuminates it. That is what you need to replaced.

Have you got factory xenon or halogen? As the 2005 E60 has two different sets of parking lights depending in what oem version you have.

I have the ones attached in the first post. I took the picture earlier.
I think they are just standard ones but I don't know how to tell.

    Standard halogens it is then.
Each headlight takes 2 wedge type parking bulbs, one for each angel eye. Think they are called 501 bulbs or something.

You just remove the plastic flap, squeeze your hand in and replace. It's tight but quite easy when you know how I suppose.

Before you buy new bulbs try this

Turn the light switch fully to the right then switch on the car. That sorted out my problem.

Also make sure you don't have a loose wire.

What would that do? Other than turning the Lights on?

Right. Weird but worth a try.

Ah sure that loose wire could be anywhere and could take hours of tracing.

all i know is that it worked for me and i havent had the issue since i tried it.

You have halogen lights as per my previous posts. 100%.
The above means your indicators have white lens.

How do you know they are halogen though ? Just based on the year of the car is it.

Is there a leveling switch for the headlights?

Aaaaaaam, not sure. Don't even know what that is. There is the twisty thing for dipped and main lights. And then there is a thing to focus lights up and down ( you twist it north and south ) if that's what you mean ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

Xenon headlights don't have that. They level up and down themselves.
