    Question,

Which of the two has more feeding in a round bale ? If you had a field and say you made hay from it and got 100 round bales. Just say if you had made silage out of it instead, how many silage bales would you have gotten ?

It all about quality, not quantity. Silage all the way

I'd be more concerned with dmd,dm ufl and p content than bales per acre to be honest.silage would nearly always win out as it is very hard to get hay right in this country.some lads are happy to see pits stuffed and harvester on its knees bringing in crops,I'd prefer quality over bulk any day as it gives you more options and thrive/performance would be streets ahead

Quite right it's all about DM matter, but what I'm wondering, is does silage really cost twice as much as hay to make ? Just say from the same field because it's more compacted and not turned a few times, would you end up with 80 bales of silage as opposed to 100 bales of hay ? Therefore meaning silage isn't really twice as expensive to make ??? I've found theres more feeding in silage then hay .

Would ya not have less bales if ya made hay? Turning it everyday in hit weather it would reduce, I'd say after you turn it several times and have to have a shed to put hay in also it mightn't be too far away from silage cost

to make 100 round big bales quality hay you need own equipment certainly a good reliable contractor. in regions of France conditioner in mower are different to ones used here for silage to aid drying
depends on what your requirements are , hay for calves ,horses, outliers or if in area of conservation,,silage may not be allowed,ring-feeders certainly aren't. as ould lad said a fistful is always handy,
