16-25 year old - Medical Card Question

I am 25. I qualified for a GP Visit Card in June 2012 which was due to expire in June 2014. However, it was automatically renewed until February 2015.

I was made redundant from my job just over a week ago and I am now fully unemployed with a JSA rate of €188 per week and no other income. When I qualified for the GP Visit Card my income was based on part-time earnings + casual JSA and I was granted the card on a discretionary basis as my income was about €7 over the weekly limit.

I emailed the Client Registration Unit to advise them that I had lost my job and they emailed me back a form to send in to see if my card could be ungraded from a GP card to a full Medical Card.

The thing is, it says on the form that if you are between 16-25 years and living at home that your parents income is means tested but I didn't have to do that last time, it was solely based on my income.

Does anyone know if I have to submit my parents income to be re-assessed or would I be better just leaving it altogether.

    Thank you.

When will you be 26? If its before feb 2015, I'd wait till you are 26.

I'll turn 26 at the end of May 2015.

Would advise applying without your parents' income details. You are on a Jobseekers payment and not dependant on them and besides the fact that you are under 26, living at home and in receipt of the full amount of JA means that your parents' income has not affected that payment and therefore unlikely to be relevant to your Medical Card application.

sorry to jump onto this form, I was thinking of applying for a medical card. I am on jobseekers allowance for the summer and I will be returning to college this September full time. I wont be getting btea or anything like that. I am 32 and still live at home with my parents. Would my parents income come into affect?

    Thanks.

Your parents income won't be taking into account once you are over 26 years of age.

If you have income solely from part-time work that is below the thresholds for a Medical Card/GP Card then you should definitely be entitled to one. I think €164 is the max income from earnings per week for a GP visit card but they do also take rent/travel expenses etc into account.

Thanks for the reply. The only income I have is Jobseeker's Allowance of €188 a week and this will stop in September once I start back in college. Maybe I'll hold off and apply when I start back in college, as I will have no income at all and would hopefully be able to get it then.
