No OP, they're not a children's charity, and no children's charities will take second hand toys any more for exactly the reasons you were given, no matter who they're run by.

You could always try and flog them on jumbletown.ie and donate the proceeds to the ISPCC.

No, just the list specifies what they'll accept.

I'm fairly sure that orphanages as we picture them dont exist anymore.

A women's aid or a family refuge might take them.

SvP is still a religious charity though. Do you mind donating to a religious charity Op?

OP are you looking to find a children's charity without a religious bent to it, or does that actually matter?

I wasn't sure from your OP.

I do as I do not believe that they care as much as non religious charity.
As this is not thread about religion I will not go in deep for my reasons but I would prefer to donate for ordinary charity/orphanage or just family with kids not related with church of any kind

Women's Aid refuges might take them. Give them a call.

Go for St Vincent de Paul, they definitely take donations of toys.

I don't think orphanages exist today, run or non run by the church. Children's home maybe?

Strange (and a bit disappointing) that Barnardos can't take toys, but if they could, they would - there must be some reason for their refusal.

The thing is that I emailed them asking if they would and they said yes!:
We can accept donations of toys once they are in safe working order and have all their parts etc. Would you mind letting me know your location and I will be able to advise you of how best to make the donation.

    Thank you.

Than I drove to the store to find out that they do not accept toys....

If you're just trying to spread a little cheer and do a little good - what does it matter what they believe?

There are no orphanages in Ireland any more.

If you'd like to give the toys in a way that they'll get to poor kids, the best thing is to wash them well and then donate them to a charity shop in a poor area.

There are no orphanages as such in Ireland any more. Government policy is that children under 12 who cant live with their own families should be placed in foster homes. Children over 12 can be placed in residential children's centres when they have needs that cannot be met in a foster care setting.

"which is runs non by church?"

    What does that mean?

It means "which is not run by a church".

They are Christian though. The OP doesn't want to donate to a religious charity.

People were leaving in any old junk - broken toys, bits missing, the toys were basically more of a risk to the children than they were a help. Health and safety is a big deal with the possibility of injury to children now from second hand toys.

That's why things like DVDs and books are acceptable, also second hand clothes in good condition (underwear as far as I know is not acceptable).

I'd be surprised though if the OP finds a charity without a religious bent to it, let alone would take toys that Barnardos refused. I can't think of any off the top of my head which is why I suggested flogging them online and donating the proceeds to the ISPCC.

Which is his right. I however would struggle to deny toys to orphans based on the fact that they are in care run by a faith group.

The S V de P and other charities are not interested in ****e items. Put them up for free on Gumtree.

I'd recommend the SVP myself, I always thought they did good work.

I dont think it's fair to say they dont care as much as non-religious groups either

SVP do great work OP. I can guarantee they care as much as anyone else about the poor. To say otherwise is BS. But your toys your choice. As least someone will benefit.
