Not sure if this is correct forum. Sorry if this is long winded!!
I went into a certain supermarket today in Galway to buy Jalapeños but they had no jars left on the shelf so I went to the Deli counter and asked one of the staff if I could have some Jalapeños from their, she said it would be fine but for me to get a plastic salad bowl so she could put them into it. I got them along with a few other bits and went home. I had made chilli and laid out the table leaving the peppers on it, my daughter ate some of them while I was dishing up the dinner, I sat at the table and put a fork into the tub to find a big chunk of glass in it. I was shocked and panicked as my daughter had eaten some and after checking that she was o.k I was raging. I closed the pot and headed straight back into the supermarket to speak to a manager, whilst waiting for a manager I went over to the deli counter to see the same tray of Jalapeños sitting there, I immediately advised a few customers not to get the peppers and on closer inspection there was small bits of glass in the tray of peppers behind the counter, still potentially being served. The Manager came and I explained the situation and showed him the shard of glass in the Jalapeños I had bought and I then pointed at the Jalapeños at the deli counter and showed him the glass in the bottom of that tray, he immediately asked a member of staff to remove it. He took the pot I had and was very apologetic and refunded me the price of them and said someone will call me by Monday. I am just so thankful that my daughter didn't end up in Casualty or worse. I explained that this service wasn't acceptable and that the way food is prepared needs to be monitored more carefully. I
Don't want to make a fuss really but this is totally not acceptable and I was wondering what I should do. I did take a picture of the bought product with the glass in it, I'm sure I cant be the only person this happened to today.

    Thanks

Accept whatever gesture they offer you on Monday. You cant go legal as there was no damage.

I wouldn't care about compensation in this situation. I'd be more concerned with contacting the Food Safety Authority of Ireland to report it, to try stop it from happening again.

Thanks for your comments, I am not looking for compensation just to clarify, I just didn't know what I should do or who to contact regarding this, I will contact the food safety authority immediately. It was on my mind all last night, it really has bothered me. Thanks again

I'd imagine it was just a simple mistake. But do what you gotta do.

Well Obviously it was a mistake but one that shouldn't have happened. I have left a v mail with the food safety authority as their not open today and it's up to them what they do!!

Food contamination happens I'm afraid OP. It's not what you see that will do you harm.

Report it if you need to but the liklihood is there is a full investigation underway.

(Sorry at work, no spell check.)
