Hi all. I didnt know where to post this so feel free to move (its my first time)
I went to the doctor today with a minor illness and was given a prescription for medication.
Bought the tablets on my way home but on reading the warnings/side effects have decided I do not want to take them.
My question is this, if I bring them back to the chemist tomorrow unopened am I entitled to a refund?

Nope as they'll have to be destroyed once they've left the pharmacy.
Most of the side effects are put on there to tick all boxes, many of which occur very very rarely.

Thanks for the reply. I thought as much but just wanted to make sure as they were quite expensive. May as well just pop them so!

I'd answer the question and tell OP he/she is being silly only for the fact that OP looks like a 'Hit 'n Fader" so it'd be wasted effort.

The side effects are the best part!

I did this recently too, I was prescribed a few meds, even though I told the doc I didn't want them, he was insistent, so I got them, then later decided nah I'm not taking these. What are you supposed to do then, take them back so the pharmacy can do something with them?

    .......Or

    .......Here's an idea

........Look at the listed side effects. Keep in mind that because of litigation they have to put down every single little tingle reported by the human trials whether related to the drug or not. Note that the side effects are statistically grouped into 1 in 10, 1 in 100, 1 in 1,000 and 1 in 10,000. Realise that you are unlikely to experience even the most common 1 in 10 side effects.

......and, I dunno, maybe try the feckin medicine first to see if you experience any side effect at all. You can stop taking it you know. It's not like the Matrix where there is no coming back from the Red pill.

To put the above into perspective, I've taken a prescription pill every day for 3 years now and have experienced 2 of the top ten side effects. Thing is, I only got the side effects 2 years after starting to take the pills and they only lasted as short while. So if it's just a simple course of medication for a defined period, you'll be fine.

I'm afraid you will have to become a drug dealer and sell them on the black market. Only logical choice . Good luck .

Thanks for the reply, im not usually the type to worry about taking something that has been prescribed for me its just on reading the warnings it explicitely says not to take if you have any of the following medical issues. One of which I have.
As my own doctor was not sitting yesterday I saw someone else who did not check my medical history so would not have known this. They are only pain medication so im sure I can hold out til Monday and go back and ask the doc

Well thats totally different then. Should have posted that as the OP.

My mother is a divil for being scared by the Side effect warnings but paying close attention to the information leaflets for the medications has also meant she's picked up on exactly that issue on several occasions where the Doctor and Pharmacist didn't. In fairness the pharmacy usually do pick up issues like this most of the time though, as long as you have a regular pharmacist you use. Pharmacists heads must be wrecked trying to read Doctors handwriting and picking up on contra-indications that the doctor missed when prescribing meds.

Answer to your question is no.
I agree with the other posters. The side affects occur rarely and do not always happen to every patient. So I think you should take them for maybe 2 days and then if you do experience any adverse effects stop taking them and go back to the doctor again for something different if you need to.

Yep should have been more specific in my post but i had it typed out 3 times already and my phone kept crashing so my post got shorter and shorter as time went by!
Nobody at fault, I prob should have told the doc but didnt think anything of it plus the pharmacist was quite busy and not one i would usually go to. No harm done will just wait it out til Monday
