    could be - do you have any of the letters included in this in other text on the document for comparison ?

    looks to me like there may be an extra 'e' in there - Groundesman...

    Yes, there are two capital G's but they look quite different to this word.

    This is a witness with the surname Gray on the marriage record.

    Also the name 'Thomas' where the T looks similar to the first letter of the occupation.

    Maybe 'Tradesman' ?

    Yeah, tradesman for me, with the same 'T' shape as in Thomas

    based on Thomas it's definitely a T - same flow of the pen. His cap. Gs have a big descender on them

    Another occupation problem, maybe someone could help me on. If an employer is G.S.W. what would that mean? Is it Great Southern something, General something?

    Thank you for that. I did wonder if it was the railways but with no 'R' it flummoxed me! Appreciated.
