As HD on Sky? I think I've only seen some if the Irish shows flagged as HD. I know programming that hadn't been flagged was indeed in HD.

    RTÉ indifference?

    RTÉ indifference?

RTE do not control the flagging or otherwise on Sky. The same way there is no SD version of RTE1 outside Sky.

If you want the RTE experience used the terrestrial platform. If you want to complain about the quality of picture or program extras on Sky, complain to Sky.

Hmmm. How is it that programmes on the other HD channels are correctly flagged?
RTE1 SD is also on cable tv by the way.

I'm not going to buy any more equipment. I have the Sky dish and box every other channel flagged the programmes correctly.

God forbid the Irish channel does too.

What other HD Channels, the UK ones ? I do not know I do not work for Sky.

RTE do not broadcast natively in Standard Definition. Any feed from RTE's site that is reencoded otherwise is done so and maintained by Sky.

    You need to ask Sky.

Failing that you can always watch TV terrestrially for both RTE's in HD. You don't need to pay a third party service to view the channels. They are free to air.

It's the source material being transmitted that's the problem. Everything is broadcast in 1080i, but it's not always in HD. The Saorview EPG on terrestrial is inconsistent with regards to this. Some programmes have (HD) in the EPG info to indicate the source is actual HD. Some programme's source material is actual HD, but the EPG info doesn't include the (HD) indicator.

Plus when are RTE 1 & 2 HD gonna start pillarboxing their 4:3 source material. Stretchyvision is absolute cack....

    They ? RTE/2RN ? No.

Services NI Ltd re-encode to MPEG4 L3 standard on DVB-T2, by agreement.

But they must have a special feed as the DOG is different isn't it?

RTE 1 SD is on Saorsat, UPC and Virgin Media in the North. Do they all source it from Sky?

They do of course, broadcasters are responsible for their own epg data, including flagging of subtitles, HD/SD, audio description etc.

There is an SD version of RTE1 on all platforms except Saorview and it's provided to the platforms by RTE. Nothing to do with Sky.

Sky have a dedicated area in Montrose for encoding and uplink etc. Different feeds for the NI Mux which would be subject to rights agreements.

Does it matter though? I'd presume anything on RTE HD is either HD or upscaled myself. Either way it's going to be better than SD :)

RTE2 HD had the World Cup final flagged as HD on skys epg last night yet they showed it in SD. I had to watch it on BBC HD:confused:
