This one's popped up on my radar when finishing very well in what looked a quick race last time out at Bellewstown. It's off the same basement mark tomorrow. Should be a very decent price and if it reproduces that kind of form it'll go close. Second one is going to be Burn The Boats in the last at Navan. Been following this one off a cliff, but tomorrow sees it in a lower grade affair that previously, so it should hopefully step up.

Sky Lantern for the Falmouth. She should come on a lot for her Ascot run and has a 5 pound pull in the weights with Integral from the Windsor Forest.

I don't like/rate Integral at all, Can't put my finger on it but something just puts me off the horse.

Cheers Harry, I rarely dip my toe into flat racing, Fugue being case in point!

I really like Sky Latern, she is one of the few flat horses I would back, I was full sure the race was tomorrow.

Sky Lantern wont run in the soft, will be interesting to see if theres a going change

Ger Lyons facebook post this am
Ok we stay local tonight at Navan with three runners. We run Bad News Bear in the claimer and while he didn't handle Bellewstown he will love the step up to 10f today. He was handed a mark of 69 after his last run which I feel is very fair and he has room for improvement but is wrong on ratings for this race. He has been enjoying his racing so far and as long as it's not too soon after his last race he should be involved at the finish.
Hagler ran well first time and is ready for his second start. He's a delicate sort but came out of his race in good order and wants fast ground and the trip will suit. He will be vulnerable to a 'good' sort but otherwise should run big.
Burn The Boats has been very frustrating so far this season. You have to remember that he was gifted to me originally as he has problems. I am worried that those problems are starting to resurface so I'm stepping him up to the mile to see if I can get him to finish out his race. As he's been rushing in his races we will try and drop him in, get him settled into a rhythm and then hopefully run through them. If that doesn't happen then it's off to the vets for serious rehab. So while he's taking a big drop in class and is the highest rated in the race it's just not that straight forward with this horse. As he won the big Paddy Power race last year, he owes us nothing so we will look after him.
In other news whilst we didn't train a winner last night it felt like we did when news came through from Newmarket that David Redvers had purchased Brendan Bracken from Anamoine Ltd and is sending him back to Glenburnie to train.
I'm delighted with this as BB is a favourite in the yard and is a rock solid GR3 performer. Hopefully Sheikh Fahad will have plenty of luck with him and appreciate the way Qatar Racing are supporting the yard.
So now to find the next winner! A rolling stone catches no moss!

Down as soft on ATR, was hoping the rain avoided Newmarket.

What do people think of Purr Along chanes in the Falmoth. Apart from Certify and the AOB trained outsider, it is only one with winning form on soft. Thought it ran well in Ascot lto too, staying on well from the back

Being following this horse since Guineas day in Curragh last year when unlucky in running. NTO won the Paddy Power sprint fairly comfortably and I thought was destined for great things. Has apparently had problems and following 2 poor runs in UK, I thought would be perfect for Paddy Power sprint again this year, in which I had large bet but horse ran poorly. Interesting to see horse dropped significantly in class and now going over a mile again, presumably to try and settle. Good to firm going should be ideal and will be having good bet. 5/1 most places at moment, thought I might get better price, but still looks good if not dependable value in a small field.

Going is now officially soft. I'm not sure why Hannon is so opposed to running Sky Lantern on soft ground. She seemed to go well enough on softish ground during her 2yo days.

I think it pelted down last night from my morning reading, I think Hannon is down on record as saying he wont run her on soft as well

Barry Hills had a nice winner at the last Chester meeting ridden by Richard Kingscote and the same combination team up tonight with Xinbama in the 8.20. at 6-1 might be worth an interest.

Incidentally, if you are betting at Chester tonight (or on the golf next week) we have had no rain at all here in the last few days and none forecast.

She certainly seems to have improved for the switch to Johnny Murtagh's. There seems to be plenty of money for her this morning with her form on soft ground.

The jockey is only factor holding me back having a nibble, he's the most frustrating rider i've come across, holding up horses giving them no chance, drives me nuts

Ive been following her since day one, imo she wont pick up in soft ground, hence the drift, Hughes said before she needs it like a road to be seen at her best. Integral will have her measure again unfortunately.

Integral wouldn't be 100% certain to act on the ground either though.

Spenser by miles the worst well known jockey , if any other even half competent rider has his ascot rides , they woulda had 3 for sure, maybe 4 winners, he had 0, you'd swear at times he was trying to get boxed in, and this holding them up miles back and coming with a run too late business , argggg

100% agree. I just worry about Sky Lantern today, Hughes will hold her up stone last and she just wont accelerate like she can in that ground i dont think. Im surprised they are running her tbh

The Horsted Keynes ride was the worst i thought, was absolutely flying at the end

Got a text of Paddy Power bet a tenner by text on the 1.40 and get a tenner free bet on the 5.00 race. I don't know if it's only for customers who got the text but just throwing it up if it interests anyone.

Now just got to look at both the races.

Anybody looking at Rizeena with doubts about Sky Lantern and Integral on the ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭rossom

Having a small dabble on 5.20 Ascot Pupil 28/1 for the Hannon yard. Ran a fair bit better than his finishing position of 18th suggests in the Brittania at Royal Ascot as he was drawn the wrong side and was 5th of 10 in that group and the 4th home that side Table Rock has since come out and won twice since including a Listed contest at HQ yesterday. Pupil, who showed decent enough form as a 2 year old, has been dropped 2lb for that run to a mark of 90 which allows him to get into this 0-90 handicap and I think the booking of Adam Kirby (1-5 for Hannon Snr and hasn't ridden for the yard since 2011) catches the eye quite a bit. This is a much easier contest than what he contested last time and at 28/1 he's certainly worth an each way bet to me.

Took Rizeena at 3/1 without Integral so happy with that. Not much else standing out today.

Lay it now for a free bet. I am on Voyageofdiscovery myself. Sea Defence is drifting an awful lot, enough to make you think something must be up.

Think Pupil bumped into a well handicapped horse there. Probably the easiest Kirby could have been on him to achieve best possible result as fav had flown. Will definitely be upped to 10f again soon and is handicapped to win races. 28s on the place isn't at all bad.

Thought he was comfortable TBH, jockey maybe had to push a little harder than expected but always getting there and won cosily in the end I think. Took 5/1 for decent bet, very happy:)

Backed this lad at Ascot I think, wouldn't touch him today especially after the Lyons update on twitter/Facebook and then he wins. Typical! Doh!
