Hi, I have genuinely lost a work mobile phone and personal mobile after being dismissed from the company I was working for, just before sent the work mobile back to the company. After provided the Garda report number to the company and asked them to contact the Garda for further info (case still under investigation) Company is saying that I have to pay for a new mobile and provide several answers such as: when/how I lost it etc all this questions can be found on the garda report. My question is, am I obligated to pay it back to them? Is it legal? Does anyone knows where i can be advised about it?

Consult your contract of employment. It should tell you the liability conditions for company property. Yes you could be held liable and have to pay for the phone loss.

I don't know why you won't answer their questions. If you still worked there would you expect to just point them in the direction of the Gardaí? You still have certain responsibilities to the company even though they fired you.
