Managed to bag myself a somewhat cheap return flight to Brussles (leaving on the 25th and returning on the 27th of July) I am going to visit friends in Ghent on the Sunday but I was wondering what are some things worth doing.

I want some ideas from people that have been there already! I have an app on my phone called triposo which was handy for Asia but the list of things to do in Brussles is a mile long!

I Know there is a TinTin museum....The Herge and thats definately on my to do list.

Any other ideas would be welcome! :)

    Beer, wander about, more beer.
    Simple enough plan!

Bruxelles les Bains = Brussels beach along the canal. Grand Place, Manneken Pis, The Big Game Brussels for cheap beer and cocktail break, Musical Instrument Museum, Atomium...
Otherwise Bruges is also very lovely

Plus one to what maria80 said especially about Brugges, its only an hours journey and is stunning.
In Brussels you could also go to the cinquantaire, its like the brandenberg gate in Germany. There's a plane and car musuem located inside.
The courtyard Galeries St Hubert is well worth a visit and it has one of the nicest chocolatiers in there called cornet.
Make sure to get your picture taken with the little pisser statue, other than that eat plenty of chocolate with beer while you're there.

Brussels is a massively underrated city.

Most people only get as far as the Grotte Markt/Grand Place and its surrounding area and that's it. I think what's delightful about Brussels is how much everything, old and new, pretty and ugly, etc. is mashed up like Belgian stompf.

Areas to explore beyond the Grand Place are Sablon (the oldest, poshest neighbourhood), the area behind/beyond the Beurs/Bourse (old stock exchange) which has lots of good bars and places to eat and an old market. Saint Gilles has its charms and is much more normal while also being the home of some fantastic examples of art nouveau architecture, and Ixelles is another really nice neighbourhood with good drinking and eating establishments.

It's said that the best French food is served in Brussels, but I also have a particular weakness for Belgian cooking as it goes so well with beer. You must try the Brussels region's style of beer: lambic. It's light, fizzy, sour, fruity and comes in various forms, the most popular being 'geuze' which is a blend of old and new lambic beers. The best place to get these, well, one of them, is a small bar chain called Moeder Lambic (but they don't do food, just some snacks).
