Hi guys does anyone know how to recover the above stb. Had multiple failures in the last few days. Gettin the Xoro symbol on the screen but the box won't boot up just stays in that screen so I'm assuming it can't find the firmware. Any help appreciated

Those boxes have been known to be quite troublesome.

What kind of aerial is it connected to. Got called to a house where they were on their second box and was doing as yours. Just so happened I had an identical one so I just swapped them. It was connected to rabbit ears left in window beside it. Got Full signal strength and quality. Went away and was called three days later. Back doing what yours is doing now.

Went back and put a UHF aerial in the attic and replaced the box and never heard anything since. They was a year ago. Could Have been coincidence but I think not

There both connected to a Blake 10 element UHF aerial both fitted in attics. New cables ran in from aerial to box by myself and no boosters or amps both stbs are in a less than half mile radius of a transmitter though but I'd doubt that would make much odds. 1 failure would be ok but I've had 3 fail just this week all fitted around the same time when the analogue switched off. It's stumbled me because I've been installing for a few years and can't see any obvious cause. It's also bad software on Xoro's part to say that the firmware can't be re-loaded forcefully through the USB port. I've fitted maybe 40-50 of these stb's and now I hope I don't get a run of this bad luck. 😬

Well I've no sympathy. Bet you didn't tell your 40-50 customers you were fitting unapproved boxes with no MHEG.

If there is no known button and power sequence to recover these boxes, then the owners are screwed because there is no recovery serial port on these boxes.

Nothing to do with the thread. Someone always has to have a dig on here

Believe it or not but alot of customers actually look for the cheapest option for second, third and fourth tv sets in their homes

Looks like pure coincidence, 1 "good" box out of 3. What effect do you think the aerial was having?

Well obviously you can't be 100% sure with these things but the rabbit ears was plugged into the mains so perhaps there could have been some sort of fault in it(it was or seemed to be an old unit) that was causing the receivers to fail.

Can't be sure but could be!!!

Ya I totally second that. Nobody's going to fit an approved stb in every room in the house just for the sake of having mheg5 as the majority of people don't even know what it means and teletext is a thing of the past. I just didn't think that justified a response when somebody doesn't have something useful to add. But anyway I've often wondered as you said If the rabbits ear aerial should be used as I can remember having a similar problem in the past with a different receiver. But the only thing I can put this down to is either bad manufacturing on Xoro's part and poor quality parts internally. Things go wrong obviously and most installers will know that but it's ridiculous that they haven't allowed a way for an installer to recover the box should something like this happen

Rabbits ears are VHF radio aerials not TV aerials. Amplifiers on indoor aerials are a waste of time, money, and electricity.

Plenty to do with the thread. The OP has cheap unapproved boxes and is wondering why they are not lasting. The difference in price between approved and unapproved boxes is marginal. The cheapest is often not the cheapest in the long run.

Might be marginal now, agreed, but there was a time when they were anything but!!!!

Totally agree that cheapest is not always best, but it's what the customer is willing to pay that often dictates the equipment used. I wouldn't be a big fan of those Xoro units but yet I always seem to carry a few of them. Have installed a good few of them with no problems at all.
