Was preparing for a bike ride the other day, and on picking up my gloves, realised they are about 17 years old. Still do a great job, and have saved hands from a few tears, only as recently the other day, so have never bothered or been interested in changing them. Plus mine look so much nicer than the current version.

    Current version.

Will try and put mine up later.

Got a long sleeve training top when I signed on for the ras in 1979 ''Health Race Ras Tailteann''[all riders got one] and the [odd] time that I venture out on the bike it still gets an airing.

That'd be the bike. It's a steely, about 14 years old, a Paganini with Columbus sl chrome forks and stays. It's a legend.

My city centre hack - built in this form around 1989/1990, most of the smaller parts are from around then, frame from '78 (Irish-built Raleigh), oldest part is Brooks B72L saddle from '73, and rear rim (Mavic Module E, 27") and Bluemels Popular mudguards are from around 1974. Brakes are Mafac "Racer" centre-pulls, which could be even older, but I got them used, in a bike shop in Boston, so who knows...

Oldest should be how long you have it rather than how old it is.

I have my MTB from 1995/6.

Puch 5 speed racer lying in the shed at my mums house. My dad bought it for me new in 1980 and I rode it steadily for around 13/14 years when it was consigned to it's current resting place. I have a nostalgic plan in the back of head to restore it someday but I may never get around to it.

Up until early this year I was wearing a helmet I'd had since I spent all of my savings on it as a 16 year old in 1997... I never crashed it... on my first spin out in a new helmet I crashed spectacularly and smashed it like a hard boiled egg beaten with a spoon...

I've a 22 year old trek mountain bike frame in the shed, unfortunately its cracked, but was still in use about 12 months ago, my current hack is probably just as old if not older, its so dirty I've no idea what make or what it actually is

I met an East German in '94 and he showed me this cool pannier that was actually waterproof. All Ireland had back then was cotton caradice ones, so I asked him to get me one, which is why I have a 20year old Ortlieb Roller that gets almost daily use still.

Do bikes qualify or just pieces of equipment?

My Specialissima would be the oldest then. Not sure how old exactly she is, but late '80s most likely...

A Rutland Bike Shop tee shirt from the late 60's. A few of us enthusiastic kids were regularly allowed by Jim Ryan to rummage in the basement bike graveyard for parts. Thought I still had a Mercian musette from around then but it seems to have vanished.

Was the late 80's also the last time you painted your house?
Alas, so much training to be done, and so little time for doing DIY, or mowing the lawn.
