SUSI Problem

Just in relation to the SUSI grand, I am living with my girlfriend in a apartment since Feb 2013. I am 21 years of age. I recently got offered a place in 2nd year Buisness and Administration in DKIT. This morning I have tried to apply for a grant of SUSI to help pay the fees as I am entitled BTEA. I got BTEA last year in a level 6 PLC course. Problem is under SUSI rules/guidelines I am dependant on my parents which means I have to give details of my parents income even though I haven't lived with them in 18 months. I have no contact with my parents at all and I haven't seen them in 18 months and I have no contact details so I have no way of contacting them. I rang up SUSI and they said that I have to be over 23 to change my status to a independant adult otherwise I have to somehow get in contact with my parents which is vitually impossible considering I have no contact details and they have recently moved house.

Can someone shed some light on what I should do? and what documentation do I need to change to a independant adult?

You have to prove you are irreconcilably estranged from your parents.

Best thing to do is ring SUSI and ask what proof they need.

It could be something like a letter from the guards and the hse

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
