Do you name your bike/s anyone?
Bit weird that so I don't but Mrs J sometimes calls mine
'that fooking bike' which is as good a name as any I guess:D

Mine's Giuseppe. I tend to name a lot of things - not just bikes! My cycling shoes are Luigi and Mario for example.

I think I've said too much!

    My bikes name is Aomame.

She's a Fuji, therefore she needed a Japanese ladies name.

I name mine after very old fashioned Irish female names:

    Nábla
    Gobnait
    Fáinse

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 6,856 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeeee

I name everything. Bike wise I have Daisy (old Raleigh), Benny (80's Peugeot racer), Rosalind (80's Puch racer) and the main man Henri (70's Peugeot racer). The others are on the injured list. And have been for some time :o. My rental track bike is called Geoffrey. I tried out Shia and Beatrice in the rentals as well but we just didn't click. Geoffrey just felt right :D
I don't understand how you can not name a bike. I am a bit broken though :p

Damn it I thought no one knew what my name in Irish was. It follows me around in it's guttural hideousness everywhere. What is Gobnait?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,842 ✭✭✭Micilin Muc

Gobnait was a beekeeping saint from Cork.

I don't know much about Nábla, but Fáinse was named so because I bought her when I moved to Connemara, it being a Connemara name and all. I have never met anyone named any of my three bike names! Also don't know the English of any of the names either!

I call mine 'a piece of sh*t' as it won't go up hills very well. I wonder where I am going wrong :-)

Oh I know all about Gobnait, (sadly) it is the Irish for my name (Deborah) I was wondering what kind of bike she is. There is no other way of phrasing that question without it sounding bad :o

The other names are lovely though!

Ah, Gobnait has a mountain bike frame with narrow wheels and slick tyres, formerly used for urban commuting, now used for casual jaunts to the shops and beach. She's a good ride, if that's what you're asking ;)

I only recently discovered that I've been riding Victoria for the last year.

Some people around here don't stop at anthropomorphising their own bikes.

I blame gadetra for the fact that I now think of my single speed MTB as Wolfgang Beaterson

Oh yeah.... my Planet X beauty is called "Mo Cailin Beag"
The commuter one is simply "B... tch"

That you have. I can't believe you were riding her all that time without realising the true character of your dark-haired Milanese lady ;). What can I say, I am the bike whisperer :D :pac:

    Or the bike pervert...

I only reveal their true characters. For the small fee of towing me around. Their innate (or not) sauciness has nothing to do with me :p

I have a big, heavy bike that sits in the shed.

I've absolutely no use for it and it does nothing except get in the way.......

    ........I named it after the ex-wife :D

Big Red 1 and Big Red 2.

N+1 will be Big Red 3.

I have no idea why every bike I set my sights on is red.

A little internet research tells me that Gobnait is the female version of Gobán which means little smith or young smith. So being a smith might help you look after your steel bikes, Gobnait is not all bad!

I only wish it did…Benny, Rosalind and Daisy sit on the injured bench  I do talk to them though. But only when they're there. I'm not completely mental… *whistles*

Don't have a name for the road bike or the enduro bike but my old dh bike I called voldermort as it once tried to kill me and left me with a nice big lightning bolt shaped scar on my stomach....

I just leave the name calling to the bike manufacturer.

Recently astride Selina my bike in Cornwall - she's a Scott
The Beauty was scrapped last year, but the Beast survived the crash in March in pretty decent nick (even if I didn't). I then have Belle for commuting and other training. The TT bike is called the Monster, and the track bike the Red Devil. Some have their names emblazoned on their headset caps, like these:

I actually don't have a name for my bike. But with all the Irish themed names I couldn't help think of Tír na nÓg. Because I cycle into the west to work every morning, and it feels like I'm going out to sea....

I think she is a Jeanne, Jeanne as in January not Jeanne as in genie. A flighty young thing I see her as, although it is hard to access her character without meeting her or see in a pic!

And no, she can not be Betty Swollocks! Poor Jeanne. She's all preppy and young and kind of blonde-y. I'll stop now! If she must be Betty she can be Betty Page ;)
