Is there anyway to hook a mp3 player up to a ford focus 01 ghia, without getting a new stereo?

I had my old Ford Focus (2nd model) hooked up with a headphone jack cable from the AUX port on the back of the stero, and threaded through to the area just below stero. Just plug your mp3 player into the headphone jack, select AUX (as opposed to CD/Radio/etc.) and away you go. Didn't get digital read-out or anything with that obviously, but the car didn't have usb connectors or the like as standard unlike some higher spec models.

There's no aux in on a mk1 Focus. If it has the tape deck you can get an adapter that slots in as a tape and connects an aux in to the tape head. The sound quality is acceptable but not perfect. The best solution if you want to keep the original head unit is to get a box that plugs into the CD changer port on the head unit, and you can plug your aux in into this box. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Connects2-CTVFOX001-Fiesta-Adaptor-Interface/dp/B005FMYCN4 They can be gotten a little cheaper if you shop around.

The only other way is to change for an aftermarket head unit, but I've yet to see one that doesn't look gammy in a Focus especially with the double DIN slot. Halfords often do decent stereos for not a lot more money than the CD changer emulator above.

OP, you might want to ask one of the Mods to move your thread to this sub forum, you may get someone there who has done it before:

Remove the stereo, and plug the box in at the back where a CD changer input would plug in. It's all plug and play, it comes with the plug specific to your car. Then just find a home for the aux socket at the other end. The radio will think there's a CD changer installed, and you can select it.

hey - on the cd changer front, you can also get Bluetooth/sd/aux combo kits from xcarlink.co.uk that connect to the CD changer socket- no idea if they do one to fit your headunit, but you can find out quickly on their site.

    cheers

On the "fiddly" side, there are FM transmitters available that broadcast your MP3 player (or phone or whatever) output, so you can pick it up with the radio. The quality can be quite good for such makeshift solution.

Be aware however - as I said, it's a very fiddly thing. The FM transmitter plugs in the cigarette lighter port and, depending on the car, it might be more or less awkward; It's a nightmare on the 159 with the lighter being on the central console just under the armrest - and with a sliding door on top!

Your best bet is honestly to spend 100 euro and get an MP3-capable stereo unit...will save you the hassle.
