Pal PSU on NTSC console

Hello folks! First of all, I'm not really proud of my "creative" username, but I got tired of thinking out new usernames because all the ones I came up with were taken, so typed in some nonsense.

Anyway, my case: can I use a EU Sega PSU on a NTSC Genesis? Will I still get 60hz? I am asking since I bought an US Genesis to get 60hz, but living in Europe I cannot plug the american 110-220V PSU directly into the wall socket (we use 220-240v). However, the Eu PSU is 50hz. So I don't know if the console overrides this and still sends 60hz to my TV. A step down converter is an option, but some say it's not ideal, though I haven't understood why.

Is there some specific model number I should look after? I have a Model 1 HD edition. Getting a retro console turned out way more complicated than I thought it would be...

    Thanks for any replies!

Yes, you can use a PAL PSU and still get 60hz. 50/60hz is determined by the console itself and not the PSU. Just make sure you're using a PSU for the model 1 megadrive as I think the model 2 one is slightly different.

Get an RGB cable for it as well.
Folks here convinced me and I've been steadily replacing all of my component cables with RGB ones and it makes a massive difference in picture quality.
Also, watch the Sunday markets and pick up a decent old fashioned telly, a crt jobby, for less than 30 euro.
Coupled with the RGB it will look stunning.
All you need then is some games, and Adverts is a great place to locate them, try Retropolis there, a seller with great stock and decent prices.

If the PSU reads 110~220v you can most definitely plug it into our sockets.

My bad, I meant 110-120v. Anyhow, seems that it's perfectly safe to use a PAL PSU, and that I don't miss 60hz. Also ordered a RGB Scart. Thanks peeps!

Slightly off topic. Any chance one of these Sunday Marketer would buy a tv to sell on. I have dumped it in a friend spare room at the moment. No room in my place for it when it comes to selling it.

Gamesworld lost two N64 consoles, imported from Japan, due to numptys plugging them directly into a local power socket.
Smoke proceeded to billow from the PSU as it cooked at 220.
