Folks heading to NY next week, my uncle is giving me the loan of his car, do I need to ring my own insurance co here to get insured or what way does it work? I will be using it for a week. Cheers!

Usually in the US you insure the vehicle rather than the driver.

If his car is registered and insured then you'll be perfectly fine! Cars are insured not the driver...you will need your license and make sure you know where his registration is located in case anything happens. (police requires you to show them license and registration when pulled over)
