Guy I know is planning a holiday in France.

He drives a Navara Crew Cab, and is heading to the U.K. to pick up a caravan (I would imagine it's a fairly big one, as the whole family will be with him).
From the U.K., he will be heading over to France for his caravaning/camping hols.

The question is, his licence has only catagory B highlighted. (not BE which shows a car plus trailer).

Would the omission of the trailer catagory on his licence cause a problem with either the U.K. or the French traffic police, if he gets stopped anywhere?

A 'B' licence covers a driver to tow a trailer provided - the gross vehicle weight (gvw) of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle...and the combined gross vehicle weight does not exceed 3500kg.

I'd would imagine that the combined gvw of a jeep plus caravan would exceed 3500kg.

Besides the fact that he could be prosecuted for not having a licence to cover the combination ....his insurance would not cover him in the event of an accident.

    Not worth the risk imho.

An Irish spec Navarra Crew Cab should have a GVW on it's own of 3,500kg.

Quite possible he'd need a Tacho on the continent!.
