There is Dr. K's beard tonic made down in cork, retails about 13 euro or so. It's nice and fresh smelling. He was a featured seller on etsy recently also. Can get his stuff online or in some shops around dublin also.

There is also First Olympian. Based in England. It's expensive, I got the sampler pack of all 4 of their beard oils. Then picked my favourite. The stuff is far superior in my opinion but retails about 50euro for a small bottle.

They're the two I own anyway. Got beard trimmed in waldorf yesterday and they used some beard balm on me. Was also quite nice.

Personally I find the smell of the Dr. K's beard tonic to be a little strong, I'd like to try something different next time that doesn't have me smelling like an aromatherapy oil burner.

Coconut oil is very good....also as a facial moisturiser.

'Industry' which is a shop on Drury St sells Burroughs Beard Oil which is very good but pricey. 0.5 fl ozs is about €20

Dr. K's beard tonic you can get in Knights Barbers – Stephen's Green Shopping Centre and Sam's Barbers in the Ormand Quay. It's €13 and the bottle lasts longer for me.

I use coconut oil a lot and different brands can be either thicker or thinner. It keeps the beard healthy but not as cosmetically pleasing but the main pro is it is very cheap and widely available. I use a lot of it then wash it out after a few mins or use a tiny amount and leave it in.

Be careful op. I have had a beard for 3 years now and started tinkering with it last year. It's a slippery slope.

I think most things strip it of natural quality. Things like shampoo and conditioner. I've tried several different oils too and to no avail.

I've been to see two different beard specialist (they do exist) and both recommended Morrocan oil. I've only been using it for about two months (once a week) but it is considerably better than anything else I've used.

I did hate the dry straw-like look of it but my idea of a beard was for low maintenance. It might be coming off soon if it remains in poor quality.

Just realised you want it for softening rather than nourishing.

In that case the Morrocan oil softens it up like a mo fo. You can't go wrong with it.

I like to keep it on the cusp of stubble/beard - does anyone know anything that will make it tidy looking rather than stick out 6 ways from Sunday all over the face :)

And you can steal it from your GF! :)

I presume morrocan oil is argan oil?

Seems not. After a bit of research it seems Argan is the dogs and Moroccan is a lesser quality oil.

I'm not sure of the price difference but I'd guess there's a bit of a gulf which is mad as the Moroccan oil TM is expensive enough.

50ml bottles of Argan oil are available in most Eurosaver shops for a mere €1.50

I've been using it to tame & treat my beard (which is a full-on ZZ Topper) with great results.

Almond oil is my recommendation. You can get it in boots for a nominal fee - think €2-2.50 roughly. Lasts ages as all you need is a tiny amount.

Have a shower, rub it into your beard and through your hair also then shower out the next morning. You notice a serious difference in softness and feel I have to say. don't see myself using anything else as it's cheap and works really well for me.

Pure argan oil is hella expensive and virtually impossible to buy on the high street - you'd be more likely to find it in a high-end deli as pure argan oil is actually edible. All the cosmetic versions are diluted/adulterated in some way. The main difference between the brands is the amount of pure argan oil they contain and what other oils they use to dilute it with.

Grab some Miracle Oil from Aldi and lash it in, it's their version of Moroccan Oil and it's only €4 for a bottle.
