Tyre Repairs.

I have four 180/65 TRX 390 Michelin Tyres . The side walls of same are cracked due to be left sitting flat. In the past a remoulding service for tyres existed. Does anyone know if it is now possible to repair these tyres.

These tyres are fitted to a 1983 Saab 900 Turbo. The above size and spec will only suit the rims on the car.

Tyres are the most important part of your car; all breaking, steering, handling and power go through them. if they are cracked from age on the surface, they are cracked through the tyre, a remold won't fix that (if you can get it remolded). Go get new tyres :)

Two choices: Ditch the rims, or suck it up for a new set of Michelins*.

Whilst they don't make the 180/65 390s any more, they do make ones that will fit the rims.

*a snip at only €310 each at the minute.

Thanks you for your wise and accurate comment in relation to the tyres. I would buy new tyres but they are no longer available. The correct tyres for the original rims are 180/65 HR 390 TRX and these are no longer available anywhere from any source and believe me I have searched high and low.

Thank you for your assistance but I live in hope that a few good second hand ones will turn up on E bay as I like the original ones and want to keep them.

Check the date codes on them as Michelin don't currently list that size:

A call to Michelin should clarify exactly when they last made that size, but I suspect it was quite a while ago.

Are the wheels available in 15"? I was concerned about TRX being fitted to my car, but 15" wheels can be picked up cheaply, opening up the tyre options.

Until you find out they don't actually have any in stock / description incorrect / goods not as described.

Looks like a site that hasn't been updated to me. Click on the home link and it bounces back to a newer looking storefront.

It allows to order them, a few big warehouses would still have the last of their stock lying around the place.

OP, looking at the postage prices maybe a trip on the ferry for the day might be in order to collect them ;)

Yes, you might be right, caution is called for here, something not quite right about their site....................the size I am looking for is not listed on their search page.

Check out their Ebay feedback (LK Performance) and Google, some not exactly flattering stuff.

If you check the small print there's the possibility of the "we can't get it, we'll do a refund" sort of messing. The message being of course to not get your hopes up before you actually physically see the stuff in your hands.

Thanks to all posters who have offered me advice, I think to all of them, I have recorded my thanks on the site.

I now know for definite that the tyre in question is no longer in production. Below is a reply I received from Longstone Tyres.

If anyone happens to be on the Ebay site and see this tyre for sale I would appreciate very much if they would private message me.[/B

    ]Dear Sir,
    Thank you for your email,
Apologies the size you require are no longer available, the closeset would be a 190/65x390 Michelin TRX @ £228.00
