Went to my local place, mechanic said more than likely clutch flywheel(to be replaced with a solid one he recommened is this a good idea) on the way out quoted me round 1500 to replace clutch and flywheel with solid one.
Car is 2009 2.0 with 85k km on the clock

Just looking for opinions off ye guys what ye recommend i know it wont be cheap anyway Dont mind travelling to get it done im in north cork.

    Thanks Lads

Hey just so your aware the price of a replacement flywheel and clutch luk brand has come down dramatically in recent times. We do quite a lot of these and the kit niw runs in the region of about 400 plus vat. And your labour then on top of that of course. For anyone who has done plenty of these the total time shouldn't really go between 3 to a max of 4 hours for the total job providing you have no snags.
If you want any further info just ask

Thanks burke027 do you see many in kinda came out of no where to be honest in the electrical trade myself so would not be too familiar with prices.
Just dont want to be screwed over you know if i could save a bit and get it still get it done properly
thats all that matters to me.

Must get on to George Dalton i see alot of good posts and nobody has a bad word to say about him.

Being honest we have done tons of them and it is common yeah anywhere about 80k milage wouldn't be to worried there are plenty of people that can help you out. I've never delt with George only because I work in our place which is mostly audi bmw and mercedes so where very busy but I said I'd give u a idea of the price because there are plenty out there that would try to screw you over.

The kit for the older shape A4 is around €400 ex VAT, the newer shape is a good bit more expensive.

I got mine done last year here for 800€ on a 2005 Audi A6 2.0 TDI and have had no problems since.

The kit for those A6s is also cheaper than the OP's A4.

Cheers George. They were a lot cheaper at the time than I could find local to me.

€800 is a good price alright, we charge €850 for them, just as a comparison.

I was just pointing out that the kit for the OP's car is more expensive.

Haha thanks ill know for future hate to ask but how long would you think you would need to do it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Ideally would need the car for a full day.

Do not replace DMF with a solid one, as DMF is used to reduce torsional vibration in your drivetrain. You can get rid the DPF, EGR or even the CAT but not DMF.

BTW, the Luk band mentioned above will work.

Was looking any talking to several motor factors down here near me i think there is no conversion kit(to solid) available for my engine which is a Cag
Said to myself i would price it myself just for fun few quotes i got so far

    1.Local Motor Factors No.1 778
    2.Local Motor Factor No.2 978
    3Main Audi dealer (1353 +labour)
    4.Garage i use (1700 rough idea was unsure )
Two other main dealers didnt even reply to my emails

So only option is to replace like with like, George Dalton on here will probably have the correct answer for us

    Better start saving haha :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Yes replacing like with like is the only option as far as I am aware. Even if there was a solid conversion available I wouldn't recommend it anyway.

Hi George, i have an Audi a4 1.9 5 speed in the B7 model, it can be humoursome. During the morning when cold the clutch can shudder a bit and the bite is at the very end of the clutch. Today, after driving for a while after parking, while taking off a really strong grinding and vibration came into it. Heavy vibration and noise was in all gear changes. When the vehicle was turned off, it disappeared.

Also in the mornings and occasionally, it can be hard to slip the car into first and second also. Is this a clutch and flywheel issue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

It certainly sounds like it yes.

Thought as much alright, any ideas of cost for yourself to repair, i did read 850, is that right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Yes €850 is what we charge for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 671 ✭✭✭madmac187

Does that include, clutch, flywheel and release bearing? Also if you don't mind me asking is that a Sach kit aswell?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Yes it is for the full 4 part kit. Will be either Sachs or LUK depending on what is in stock at the time.
