Anyone out there know of a head lock / restraint which could be fitted to a regular feed barrier in order to restrain a single animal?...would be mighty handy for bailing a freshly-calved cow, then you could jump into the pen for tagging, feeding beistings or whatever in safety.

Have a look in the "locking feed barriers" thread Reggie started, shouldn't be to far down the page!

Not off the shelf anyways, something like the one Reggie made with a single locking section at end would probably be your best bet tbh, the problem with it being detachable is will it be to hard to get it fixed tight enough to the barrier

Connaught Agri do a detachable head restraint for calves, I haven't heard of one for cows.

Shouldnt be too difficult with the right fittings Id have thought...maybe tis time to give the clever chaps at Condon Engineering a call...
I got a bit of a doing from a freshly-calved heifer in the spring when I went into the pen, so am on the lookout for a preventative for next year!!

That's an impressive lookin bit of engineering looks class, can you just lift it off and hang it on any pen barrier

Can she get hung if she goes down?

Yes, it's maybe not clear from the pics, but it can be left hanging on side of crush & then align to where you want it, there is a plate (pic2) that is fixed to the diagonal bar on the barrier to keep secure.

    Don't think so.
There's a quick release at the top (works like feeding barriers system), which would allow you to release if any difficulty came on.
The slats are level with the passage in that shed, which may help too.
