    Hi all,

We're going to Croatia for 10 days in August, flying to and from Zadar. We would like to travel around a bit on the islands and were thinking of Hvar, Bol and Split if we had time. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips?

We probably won't rent a car if it is feasible not to - a group of 5 between 26-30.

    Cheers

If there's any science nerds in the group there's the Nikola Tesla childhood house.

    Plitvice Lakes is also amazing.

A friend who visited Zagreb recently highly recommends the Museum of Broken Relationships.

Interested to see people's opunions here. My gf and I are heading out in August. We are heading for Dubrovnik tho. Hopefully a few days in the city then explore some islands. Would anyone suggest staying on the islands themselves or staying at a port that has ferry links to the islands?

We went to dubrovnik 2 years ago for a week. Nice spot to visit for 2 days, but we were bored solid after that so rented a car. We drove up coast to Korcula and a few other places then down to montenegro (which I loved). Montenegro is less civilised/touristy and has lovely scenery.

Croatia has to be seen by boat only. There was a small ship that parks up at each big town/city for a day. Each morning it sails for a few hours up to next place. Its not a massive cruiser, more like a big wooden yaught. Seen it on travel show after and regret not going on it.

That sounds really interesting. Have you any further information on how to book onto it ?

From Zadar you can get a bus all the way along the coast. Its very cheap. Places to see on the way Id recommend Vodice for bars and nightlife, Trogir and Split for sights. Hvar for clubs and nighlife. Krka National park near the pretty village of Primosten is well worth a look. Dont miss the Old Town Zadar and Sea Organ and Homage to the Sun in Zadar - enchanting.

This looks like the boat and itinery sounds about right. Sails in morning for 3 hours then all day and night in each place. Perfect way to see croatia. Skips Split though

Seems to start the cruise in Opatija. But do you know if you can join it from Zadar.

Ì have no idea. I just saw that boat on a travel show and googled the image which brought me to that link. Think it may have been an Irish travel show. I think Michael Palin did an episode on one also. Seems like great craic with big communal dining/drinking area on the boat.

I drove hundreds of miles around croatia and found it mindnumbing. Nothing of great scenery or interest to see. All the towns are designed to be seen by boat.

If you do go on the cruise, please post back to let us know.

    Hi,

I'm just back from 2 weeks in Croatia.

Zadar is quiet and not a lot happening i must say. I wouldn't stay there for long.
We got a ferry from Zadar to an island called Dugi Otok. We stayed in a place called Soline. Dugi Otok is beautiful, with a beautiful sandy beach called Sakarun. But if your going to Dugi Otok I would recommend staying in Bozava. It's quiet, just 3 resturants and a shop, but it's very relaxing. And you get a free shuttle tram to the sandy beach Sakarun.

We went from there to Spilt. I found Spilt very lively, but beautiful. We stayed just the 2 nights there, and we were sorry after we didn't stay longer.

We also visited Hvar. I must say Hvar was stunning. It's slightly expensive but well worth it. Hiring a private boat and going between the different islands is a must.
