1.6 Petrol Auto golf, no issues starting from cold. But when warm, that's when the problem surfaces. Will turn over without issue but will not fire for some time. Allow to cool, and no issues.

Pulled code (16705) refers to potential g28 Crank Pos Sensor fault. VW looking for c.€160 to supply the part. Looks like a handy enough swap out.

Just wondering if anyone with similar experience could say that this will most likely fix the issue, or is the problem likely to be ECU or perhaps wiring related ?

I had a similar problem with my Mk4 GTI and it turned out to be the crankshaft sensor. My mechanic replaced it and was handy enough job by all accounts.....

Crank angle sensor breaking down in the heat. Classic symptoms.

Thanks lads, just on another point. The VW part runs approx €160 but spurious can be purchased for a fair few quid less. Any risk in a non VW part here in your opinion ? Seems like a fairly easy swap out once I locate the part. On the front of the block low down near the oil filter apparently ?

I'd go for the genuine vw part. I'm a bit OCD with parts tbh.

Well done. Did you use the oem sensor?

OP, VW don't make crank position sensors so there is no such thing as a VW "genuine" part in this case. Any good OE brand like Bosch or Hella (which is what will be in the box if you get it from a dealer), will do the job with no issue whatsoever.

The one that came out was Bosch. Sourced replacement from local MF.
