Hi, I hope someone can help me. I got offered a place as a mature student on a nursing course starting in September but I completed year one of a level 8 degree in 2010/2011 and am liable for the full 7500 this year and no grant. I knew if I got a place this would be the case but didnt think I would and now that I have it I don't want to let it go because it is extremely difficult to get in to. I will (fingers crossed) be able to get free fess and the grant back next year but I am stressed about finances for this year, I am sure I am not the only one that has been hit with the 7500k fees in the past but wondering is there any financial assistance that maybe the college may offer? Has anyone been in a similar situation if you could offer advice it would be great thank you.

Not sure about the college your going to but my brother started a degree course in an IT last September, he had already completed the first year of a different degree course a few years ago and got a grant for that then dropped out. He had to pay the full €3700 himself for this year, my dad gave him a loan and he pays him back weekly from his back to education allowance.

If your parents are not in a position to give you a loan then a student loan from a bank is your best bet. My brothers particular college wanted full payment by January or else you were removed from the course, no exceptions!

I know its difficult and €7500 is a hell of alot of money but this is a great opportunity for you so i'd try my hardest to go for it. Good Luck!

Thank you CKD. It's nuig the course is in, I have already phoned the fees office and they said since it's such a huge amount it can be paid monthly which is something. Parents said they would help and I am currently working full time so I am saving everything I earn from now until sept so fingers crossed it will all work out and be worth it in the end
