Quinn Internship Programme

    I have UCD's Economics and Finance course listed as first on my CAO application form. As I understand it, there is an optional 9-12 month internship programme available for Commerce and Economics & Finance students during the penultimate year.
    My question is whether or not this is a paid internship programme, or is it unpaid?

    It varies from company to company. In blackboard you can see slideshows and other items from companies about their internships, whether its paid/unpaid, etc.

    What exactly is Blackboard, and where can it be found?

    Blackboard is where you get lectures notes and stuff. You won't be able to get on until you get into UCD.

    For this year's list of companies participating in the internship scheme it is paid across all companies as far as I know, 18900 per year up to about 22-23000. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley pay more but to get positions there is next to impossible, since the internship programme has been set up only 1 has.

    Thanks, is it very difficult to get offered an internship. Do many students fail to attain one? Are you a graduate of this degree, or a present student?

    It really depends on what sort of internship you're looking for. Some companies take on 15-20 interns and are pretty straightforward to get, others only take 1 and these are often for very competitive internships (Consulting with Accenture, Corporate Banking with Barclays, Trading with SIG). If you're in Ec & Fi, are involved in extracurriculars, and maintain a 2.1 or 1.1 grade average you'll be very competitive come internship applications and wont have a problem getting an interview with the majority of firms.

    I'm in Quinn, not an Ec & Fi student but I know plenty who have done it so I've a decent knowledge of the course. If you want to get to London based roles such as Investment Banking or Sales & Trading it is definitely one of the best degrees you can do in Ireland. Very strong alumni network continually coming from it, plenty in the leading bulge bracket banks.
