    2.15 Lingfield

    Gung Ho Jack 9/1

This isn't a race that will take a lot of winning and I'm hoping that John Best has plotted up his 5 year old Gung Ho Jack here today as he races here off a career low mark of 60 and, dropped into a 0-60 handicap for the first time, I'm hoping he can take the Lingfield opener with George Baker an encouraging booking. A winner of 5 career starts to date, Gung Ho Jack's last win came off a 2lb higher mark of 62 at Kempton over 6f last October but he had run really well on two occasions in January 2013 over this C+D when beaten a length or less of mark of 69 & 70 and on a going day I certainly think he's better than a mark of 60 dropped into this low tier handicap. Starting off this year rated 65, Gung Ho Jack ran disappointingly on his first 3 outings before putting in a much better performance when 3rd under Baker two starts back at Kempton off a 1lb higher mark of 61 and the indication that day would be that his time would be near. That race hasn't really worked out too well but it was the visual nature of the performance that caught my eye and he shaped as if a horse who still retained his ability. Despite running not great (not terribly either) at Goodwood last time, he's been dropped that potentially vital 1lb to a mark of 60 which allows him to venture into a lower grade of race and I'm hoping that makes all the difference as these races are really no great shakes. Stall 8 could have been kinder but the booking of George Baker (has won on him) buoys my optimism today and I think there could be a fair bit of money for him throughout the day. Although the case I've made can't really be defined as a particularly strong one, my gut is telling me that he's going to go very close and as such I've had a reasonable size wager that he can record career victory number 6 now facing his easiest task to date.

Gamble went awry. Winner blew the race to pieces though so you probably can't really look too much into those in behind. Wouldn't be rushing to back Gung Ho Jack next time though.

Race was over turning for home.

Next gamble in Pontefract, failed also, second, 12s into 7/2.

Hugh Taylor had that one tipped at Pontefract most likely the reason for the gamble.

A fcuking great selection though. Judge the tip by the value you get, and he got you on a 11/4 shot at 9/1. You could've layed off.

fancy sun tzu to run well in the last at uttoxeter. Horse has had problems and only 2 runs over the past 2 years but has dropped 9lbs below his last winning mark and has course form at Uttoxeter all be it over fences. Backed him e/w this morning at 25s still 20s available with Bet365. Will probably finish last but thought he was worth a play at the odds

A good spot but a poor gamble. Gelding was only two pounds below his last win mark, patience is key

I see an old Rossom favourite Carmela Maria running in last at uttoxeter 50/1. A couple of lbs below last winning mark and usual jockey on board agent Louise. All things look as if she won't be out for a run but running at bottom of the weights over 3m I could be persuaded to throw a small bet on
