Unsold at mart & show animals

Something I heard tonight, and didn't know previously. You're going to the mart so you fill out your dispatch document as usual. That group of sheep need to be marked down in the register as leaving the farm. Then, if you don't sell them at the mart, they need to be marked down again.

Didn't get the full details, but am told that's meant to be done.

Similar thing for show animals, sign off farm for show, sign back on in reg when home.

If the above hasn't been misinterpreted it's certainly pushing me in the direction of looking for pastures new. I don't know about the rest of ye but I got into farming to work with animals and the land, not fulfill endless useless paper exercises under threat just to keep someone else in a job.

Maybe it was misinterpreted and isn't so, maybe someone else here can clarify or whatever.

I have been doing this from advice on here before, once they are on the marts records you need to add to register

Show society's also advise on filling out register for show visits

Now you have to fill up sheets for sheep going to winter grazing too

The paperwork is never ending and not likely to get any better

I don't know about shows but bringing animals to the mart you should already have the docket done and handed in before ya decide to bring them home
Just write on your copy UNSOLD
    That kept our inspector happy

Updating register recently myself, notice 2014 is the last year in mine for the census, does that mean new registers coming at the end of the year, or turn over page.
Department website like cattle would be handy for me, but maybe not for aged farmers who can't use computers

Wasnt aware of this either, used to just fill out a dispatch docket for shows. Had asked a few people about it and thats all i was advised to do. Will probably stick it into the register from now on:rolleyes:

The amount of unsold animals or showing with a small flock won't involve too much paperwork to fill out.

Am I missing something obvious, but why dosn't the register have a column for "total no. sheep on farm"? I think the old single sheet register had this feature?
