    Hi,

Has anybody else noticed the quality of the movies TG4 show? They show a lot of good world cinema, indie and obscure movies that other channels are unlikely to show. I am very impressed by the quality of the movies the show. What do you think?

Never watch saorview and won't until it goes HD. I refuse any film in soarview SD. Softer than chiffon.

They certainly used to be great - I remember catching a screening of Kurosawa's Dreams one night when I was a teenager and being blown away as it was like nothing I'd ever seen before. While other channels would be showing the same old stuff (Twister seemingly on constant rotation for some reason) TG4's varied selection was something I probably didn't sufficiently appreciate back then!

I have to be honest and say it's hardly on my radar any more, but that's down to the fact I pretty much never sit down and actually flick through TV listings anymore. Hope their selection remains as eclectic as it once was - especially since Film Four went downhill genuine surprises on TV seems like a rare treat indeed.

Yup, if you're going to see some interesting movie on Irish tv, it's going to be on TG4. RTE, in particular, spent years only showing movies if they had Hugh-io Grant or Hoolia Roberts in them. I can only imagine the cogs whirring in the head of the editor in RTE who was picking out one of the same few movies week after week.

Great shout, always have been daring and varied with their selections.

Also can't beat the western on a friday night :o followed by a world cinema film around 11:30 or mid night.

They have been showing some scandinavian crime thriller during the week but missed too much of it for it to be worth following now but the episode I caught did look quite good but it's on at a crazy hour :(

I wish that whoever was in charge of programming on TG4 would replace the dullards on RTE1 and 2. It's always been quite eclectic and thoughtful. I guess there is less scrutiny on what they do over there and that permits a little more creative thinking.
