    Hi all,

Expecting our first child next month so I'm looking for recommendations for a family saloon.

Would require a large boot as a wheel chair will have to fit in with the child buggy.

Nothing to expensive to run and not really interest in mercs, bmw or Audi's.

Perhaps something like a Volvo or passat?

Why a saloon ? Hatchback sounds alot better suited to your needs tbh.

    More flexability.

Saloon's are generally larger than hatchbacks.

Yes but after going from a hatchback to a saloon the hatchback was more flexible...

Not always, example Avensis, Mondeo etc. way more practical too.

Insignia hatchback is great. Loads of space and large boot lid compared to the saloon

Prefer saloons. We had a accident in a hatch back so would not buy one again.

Depending on the class you're looking at the hatch is just a saloon work a slanted door, on others it's got the back chopped off. A Mondeo hatch would be a lot more practical compared to a saloon as the boot opening is larger so awkward items like buggys can go on easier.

With a car the size of a Focus the hatch might not fit as much as the saloon however.

    Saloon

    No difference safety wise.

How much money do you have to spend?

The Volvo S60 is an excellent family car. They are very well built, very comfortable, very safe, big boot and have an excellent range of engines.

A Skoda Octavia would be a solid choice also.

Are you open to estate cars as well?

Wheelchair and buggy will be bulky enough.

Will you be doing much mileage?

Would you qualify for a VRT/VAT exemption?

Opel Zafira, the most versatile car in the world.

Wheelchair, sure. Buggy beside it, no bother. Room for coats and welly boots too, AND all the shopping...

I carried crowds of schoolboys, canoes, tents, lawnmowers, band instruments - even a freezer, once - helped loads of people move house, too -

I loved my Zafira, the perfect family car. Still miss it!
