Friday July 25th @ 10pm from the beach at Seapoint. Anyone contemplating it, and any feedback from previous years? Run by Leinster section of ILDSA. I'm keen, but given the 1500m swim will certainly (for me) finish in complete darkness I am putting out the feelers first :)

Just signed up to it, hope I dont need a swim ireland licence or im screwed!
Doing the Fjord swim in October and if it doesnt require a license either going to do the petrified forest 6km swim too

Doesn't mention anything about a licence and the last time I entered an Active.com event there was no need for one either (Killiney Ironman Swim in June). What's the Fjord swim and the petrified forest swim? Sounds interesting!

I did the Fjord swim last year, fantastic event but a pain in the hole if you dont drive to get to. I just saw a twitter notification for the petrified forest swim registration and details sketchy at best at the moment

I love the idea of this, and I just so happen to be in Dublin that weekend - the only problem is I'll be staying in Tallaght, so it would be a pain in the proverbials to get to and from it! :(

No need to worry they are organising escort swimmers to tag along with you. The 1500 they will have experienced swimmers who have swam the channel. It's all about having fun and being safe. They will have other support on hand also.

There will also be escort swimmers for shorter distances.

Signed up for this too, was down there last night racing in the Belpark Aquathon and the water was beautiful. Really looking forward to this. I also did the Fjord last year. Took the mrs. along and stayed the night before. An incredible setting and the swim was ace, however we caught the tide going out in the 2nd wave so it was a really tough race. There were a few people hauled out as it just would have gotten to cold to leave them in. See you all tomorrow, remember the hot flasks. :D

Almost too hot last night in Seapoint for wetsuits, but I shall have mine on tomorrow night :)

Water was amazing. Over 180 swimmers turned up.

I braved it without a wetsuit. Water was nice with only a few cold pockets.

Well organised fair play to the volunteers

I had an incredible time last night.

Very apprehensive getting in the water, once in, it was lovely and warm. Found the darkness quite disorientating and at times found it difficult to keep a line.

I may have been last out of the water but 1.5km in just over an hour I believe. Support swimmers were amazing.

Biomed32 I brought that wetsuit last night but was asked to support the 400m swimmers instead of the 1500m,Totally forgot to try and look for you but with so many there probably wouldn't of found you either.

Glad you liked swim. When we hit first buoy a good few of the 400m swimmers were raging they didn't pick the 750 swim.

Amazing to see 100+ swimmers go off with the glow sticks into the night and then far out as you went along buoys.

Well, dammit! I'd just finished a nice long leisurely dinner with friends in Dunne & Crescenzi and wanted to swim, but there had been brown jellyfish in Seapoint earlier and I was afraid to swim alone in the dark in possibly sting-infested seas. If I'd known there were hundreds I'd have been in like Flynn!

The Forty Foot this morning was stunning - silky and warm and almost flat calm; I seriously reconsidered my plan to become a midge and sting politicians and bankers and developers in my next incarnation and may repurpose as a jellyfish instead. (There were none there, by the way.)

Yesterday, I spotted few compass jellyfish at Seapoint. Enough to put me off swimming in the sea for a while

Harmless though, you'd barely register a sting.

If compass jellyfish are those brown fellows about eight inches/20cm across, someone I was swimming with got a nasty sting under the arm from one.

Another night swim, this time at Greystones beach on the 5th September if anyone is interested, will be signing up tomorrow although this time I think I need to organise a way to get home rather then a taxi!
