He was a very good horse for just a short period in time. Kind of like Sea the stars. it is rather interesting that they kept him around as a living ornament. not bothering to breed him or trying to keep the Nijinsky line going. certainly He was a living reminder of when the sun shined on Godolphin.

He had a year in England and a good few in Japan at stud, but yeah it is weird that they didn't use him after they bought him back from there after his stud fee had fallen to £2,500 with a live foal. 14 years old is very young to retire him, his record was so bad that he wasn't worth persevering with and looking through the last few years of his stud career there are very few foals born, so perhaps he had fertility problems.

I think the twice classic placed Melikah x Urban Sea was his best produce at stud and even with her blue blooded dam she still has only produced one decent foal in the Arc third Masterstroke who sank like a stone immediately afterwards. She also produced Villarrica dam of Vancouverite who looked good winning a Gp2 in France last year but hasn't progressed much.

Lammtara OR 130 is an under appreciated horse, 4 runs, 4 wins, started off winning a listed race on his debut which is a real sign of class. Then breaking the record time for the Derby on his 3yo seasonal debut and doing the King George and Arc Double retiring undefeated. It shows how a carefully planned out season ( just 3 races as a 3yo ) allows a horse to maintain his peak to till the Arc while many great horses like Generous, Nashwan, Galileo etc are burned out by October.

I remember talking to a chap on a train who reckoned Lammtarra was an evil horse who eyeballed a horse once he got alongside it and intimidated it into backing off.

There are parallels with Australia, both being the produce of Derby and Oaks winners. Lammtarra being the first colt produced that way to ever win the Derby, which reminds me if Lammtarra's dam Snow Bride was given the Derby because of a failed urine test by the winner Aliysa, then what about giving the Leger to Camelot.
