Looking to trade up

It's getting to the point where I'd like to start driving a nicer car. I love my Toyota avensis 2002 (which I have spend next to 0 on and has started every time since I bought it) ... but I need a cooler car...

Budget is around 10-15k. I want something newer than 2008. Not petrol because I do miles but a decent performing diesel.

Any suggestions? Was looking at 3 series BMW. Have a couple more months of saving to do before I can afford.

Thanks for suggestion. It just seems a bit normal. I've driven normal for like 7 years I want something that has a bit of special attached to it.

Honda accord is nice, not so keen on the other two.

Interior of passat is nice though...

These are all nice options. I'm wanting something which is a bit of fun. I commute 70 miles daily and been driving Avensis for like 6 years and while I can't fault her the drive is a bit mundane. So the objective of this upgrade is

1) Better fuel economy - Switching to diesel
2) Better performance - Something a bit punchy 140-180 BHP.
3) Lower motor tax
4) Reliability - I've been spoilt with the Avensis since it's been fault free since I got it

What about an A5?

I know in FWD form they're not exactly a sportscar, but its all relative. It'll be night and day compared to the avensis.
