Do you think all newborns are cute?

Have you ever had a little baby shoved in your face and you are expected to make cooing noises like it's the cutest thing you have ever seen? I get that new parents are all excited about their baby and a lot of babies are cute (when they are asleep) but I don't think all babies are cute. Some of them look like Phil Mitchell crossed with a potato and need time to grow into something resembling a person. I feel horrible for saying it but not all newborns are cute.

Another thing that gets me is that the child is barely born and everyone is saying which parent it looks like. Seriously? Maybe it's just me but at best they look like a generic face with eyes, a nose and a mouth and I can never see any of the parents features until it gets older.

Am I a miserable old grump or does anyone else feel this way?

The vast majority of new born babies are not cute. But you are expected to say that ........... as the miracle that emerged from it's cocoon is beautiful to the parents. Empathy.

they are all ugly but tend to blossom into cute kids ( Some stay Ugly )

it varies, you do see some new borns who are as cute as puppies and kittens,

but then you see some with odd shaped cone heads, or some bruising or extra wrinkled skin, and they look less cute,

it can most of the time depend on if they were delivered by forceps, naturally, or by caesarian.


i know with our daughter (because i am not biased or anything ) but she was beautiful, smooth skin, no marks, no oddly shaped head, big beautiful blue eyes, a head of dark hair, the nurses afterwards would do a double take when they used look at her with their obviously rehearsed pleasentries interrupted when they saw her "awww she is beauti.......oh wow she really is beautiful" was uttered i don't know how many times.


i don't think any of them look like their parents though, well unless their parents retained their new born faces....

After a month they're cute and smell great. Fresh out the oven they're an abomination. They should be shielded from the world till they're cute enough to present to other humans. Having said that, one of my nephews was really cute when he was born. Straight away. That was a freak incident though.

If they're close relatives, then usually yes. Outside of that they all look like clones of the same little pink alien.

Cute isn't the right word, kittens, puppies calves etc are cute. But I love tiny baby hands and feet and their little noses.

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion, just something it's best not to be too vocal about in the relevant situations.
Well I think newborns are cute, because of the unbelievable and perfect tinyness but I wouldn't say beautiful. That comes very soon after though.
Yeh I definitely think the "(S)he looks like [insert relative]" can be in the head. I know of a child who has been described as the image of his daddy, even though his dad isn't actually his biological father (unbeknownst to those who make the comparison).
