    http://www.corkcyclingfestival.com/events/

Anyone involved in this and have a particular event to recommend? Or did anyone do any events last year?

I'm particularly impressed by this ride. http://www.corkcyclingfestival.com/crosshaven-touring-cycle/ A 50km spin that took me a few weeks to build up to. They're right that anyone with "moderate fitness" could manage it (something I don't have.) It just seems quite long for a festival that might be attracting new people? Either way, it's the one I'm thinking of going on. I don't know what they mean by 9am to 5pm though, that's a lot of stops. :P

Still, it's good to see a second cycling week in as many months in Cork.

Edit: I meant to say, I'll probably try and make it to the bike repair workshop and see if I can learn a few adjustments in person.

Amn't and didn't, so am in much the same boat as yourself! From my experiences of a couple of runs on the previous weeks, I'd say there's no harm in being a little ambitious in terms of which to attempt. There's a definite benefit to cycling in a group, both psychologically and physically. (Admittedly neither of those were longer than I'd been cycling by myself earlier, but bot were they faster. Well, less slow.)

My initial impression was that the CCF was intended to be somewhat friendlier to the non-MAMILs than the NBW events, but I'm not sure close examination of the programme really bears that out. In fact, when I looked down the list last, I saw nothing shorter than 20k for "family" runs, whereas the NBW had a 5k one! (But looking again, "Picnic at the Pond" now has a description, and seems to fit that bill.)

I have found myself with next week-end off so will certainly now be in Cork for some aspect of Cork Cycling Festival.

Looked at the CI-calendar but could not find something that interested me with this much notice, so
Thanking You for starting this thread,
& Best of Luck to all Involved at this festival.

I'm with the festival and I've been updating the website to make the distances a bit more clear, so take a look at the revised events page (I just opened a Boards.ie account to answer this question so they won't let me include the URL -- it ends with /events/ though)

We're completely volunteer-run so the only cycles we have are ones people volunteer to plan and lead themselves so be in touch if you think you'd want to lead a cycle in the future - see contact details on the website.

I've added specific distances to the events pages where I can (unfortunately most cycle leads don't include distance information with their route descriptions!) and I'm actually surprised at how many cycles are under 10km. I'm going to revise a couple spins to be closer to 5km for the smaller cyclists, but as all the events are on the roads, we really can't have the really tiny cyclists along. Which is why the Family Picnic Cycle is out in Ballincollig -- the hope was that people could either cycle out there with us or meet us at the part for some off-road cycling.

Next year, though, I'm going to push for Fitzgerald's Park for the family picnic -- we didn't know if it would be ready in time this year.

If you have any other questions, give us a shout at the e.mail address on the website.

    - Sarah
