    Hi,

My OH bought her father a Toshiba L350 awhile ago as a birthday present. She set up a profile in her fathers name with a password but no guest account. He didn't use the laptop for some time and the other day when he went to log onto his profile but my OH cant remember the password she setup for him. Is there anyway to get into the profile to reset the password or is the laptop just completely useless now unless she remembers the password?

    Cheers in advance,
    Mig

There is a way to circumvent the user account.

The first thing to try would be OphCrack. Don't worry, it's not malicious!

Download the live CD for your windows version and boot up the machine. It will boot in to it's own session and try to 'crack' the password for you.

    http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/

Follow this guide on how to use Ubuntu (a linux operating system...again free) to reset a windows password.

    Good reply.

My own favourite is Trinity rescue kit. Also I live CD. You can ask it to reset password but prompt for user name first (case sensitive). You wouldn't belive the amount of computers I get in to repair that have passwords on them!

Never heard of it! Thanks for the heads up, looks like a great all-in-one.
